Let’s Get Serious About Winning FHANA Performance Awards

Every FHANA member who competes at an event or show should be eager to be recognized for his or her achievement, after all our Friesians do make us look good. I had not shown for 33 years, but when I got my first Friesian, it wasn’t long before I knew I had to share these remarkable horses with the rest of the show world, and being able to share my Friesian achievements with fellow FHANA members is sweet and perhaps even inspirational?

FHANA wants you to share your event achievements with your Friesian show horse(s) with the rest of our members, so please become familiar with our member performance awards that for 2019 have been expanded to regional awards. This will require you to put forth the effort to document those performances and results. This year our national winners will come from the pool of regional winners.

How do you do this? You first visit FHANA’s website’s Sport- Awards menu http://www.fhana.com/fhana-info/membership/awards and read about the 7 performance award areas: ridden dressage, driven dressage, western dressage, driving, riding, youth dressage, and youth driving to see what awards your performance events qualify. Then print the new Performance Event Record,” and the appropriate award application.

After you’ve studied a show prize list and have completed your event entry form, put that information on your Performance Event Record, take it along with you to the show, and fill in the empty boxes at the end of the day.  For example:

Date

Your data may have to be validated, so be sure to get a copy of the show results, or know where to find those official results, or take a photo of the posted results at the event. I always take a photo of the class list to validate the number in the class, because many shows do not list more than their ribbon placings, and if there are more in a class there is no record of it on the results document.

At the end of the show season, reference the award criteria and calculate the points for each class. The 10 classes that give you the most points are the ones that should be listed on your performance award application, which is due November 30.

Remember your horse works hard when being shown, so needs you to do your part and apply for our performance awards.
