2017 FHANA President's Trophy-Suzy Stafford

& 2017 FHANA Driving Performance Award Winner

Suzy Stafford had a very winning year with two FHANA Friesian mares in 2017 which led her to be awarded Champion in both the 2017 FHANA Performance Driving Award and in the 2017 FHANA President’s Award divisions.  One mare was Gail Aumiller's 2010 Isobel Ypkje van Het Kasteel, Sport and Michelle Venus' 2013 mare Sarabella fan Leandra. Together, Suzy and Isobel Ypkje van Het Kasteel had victories at the Green Mountain Horse Association CDE in Vermont, at the CAA Carriage Festival in Kentucky and at the Walnut Hill Farm Driving Competition. This pair also accumulated six World Championship titles and also earned the Dreams Come True Perpetual Dressage Trophy for the highest dressage score of the show (75.7%). They also became the IFSHA Overall Year End Champions in Open Combined Driving Single and Open Pleasure Driving Single and were also awarded the HOTY Grand Championship for Driven Dressage Preliminary Level and tied with Sarabella Fan Leandra at the Driven Dressage Training Level (tie).

Suzy and Sarabella Fan Leandra also came away with a World Championship title in Sport Driving and two Reserve titles in Preliminary Level Driven Dressage and Sport Horse In Hand (Junior Mare 3-5 years). Stafford also successfully guided the young mare to earn her approved IBOP score during October's FHANA keuring in Ohio.

2017 FHANA Performance Dressage Winner-Kristin Mills

During the course of the show season in 2017, our FHANA Dressage Performance Award winner successfully rode Robin Schriver’s horse, Foeke, in FEI Intermediare I & II and Prix St. Georges tests in California. By competing at the Starr Vaughn Dressage, Golden State Dressage and Pacific Equestrian Dressage shows, this pair qualified for the USDF Region 7 Dressage Championships where they then ended up by receiving scores of over 60% in all three of their tests.

2017 Youth Dressage Award Winner-Ellisa Kroll

This next award winner rode her KFPS approved stallion, Tjaarda 483 Sport-Elite, to many first place victories at the FEI Prix St. Georges level. Throughout the year, she very successfully competed at the Fields & Fences Dressagefest, Dressage at Waterloo Spring Classic, the USDF Region 2 Dressage Championships and also at the IFSHA Friesian World & Grand National Championships. Please help us congratulate Ellisa Kroll in being awarded as the 2017 FHANA Youth Dressage Performance Award Champion.

2017 FHANA Volunteer of the Year-Angie DePuydt

Angie has been very active in the FHANA community for several years; however, this past year she was extremely active as a founding member and served as an administrator with the FHANA Member Council (FMC).  Angie also served as the Health & Education Committee Chair and served on the Annual General Meeting committee.

Angie worked hand in hand with the Health & Education Committee in helping to orchestrate the first ever FHANA/KFPS education week that took place this past Oct.  Also, she is the host for the Educational webinars that have been taking place throughout the year.  Angie has been a big asset to the committee in setting up yearly goals for the committee and scheduling educational articles to be included in the Friesian magazine.

Serving on the AGM Committee and working with her other committee members, Angie was again instrumental in setting up the educational session that took place and worked very closely with the committee and the FHANA office in soliciting items for the auction.

Angie’s contributions with the FMC serving as one of the two administrators include but are not limited to scheduling of the FMC monthly meetings, keeping the meetings on task, and development of sub-committees.  Angie has been a big asset within the FMC and the organizational structure.

Angie has taken on many roles within FHANA which is why she is being recognized as the 2017 FHANA Volunteer of the Year.  I know she has a great deal more to contribute to the overall success of FHANA, but we want to thank her for her contributions in 2017.  We look forward to working with her in the future.

2017 Friesian Affaire "Born in the USA" award winner-Xenophon SMF owned by Sandra Perry

Xenophon did it again with only 6 shows under his belt in 2017! He truly is a remarkable ambassador for the KFPS/Royal Friesian. Xenophon SMF (Goffert 369 x Cindrl fan Aut) is a 10-, coming 11-, year-old Friesian stallion. Cindrl, despite her status as a third premium, earned Reserve Champion at a national level dressage show at the Caledon Equestrian Park (Palgrave, ON). There were few Friesian horses competing in dressage at a national level and Cindrl was admired by both the judges, the competitors and the spectators. Cindrl took first place each year at the Ontario keuring riding competition with Giselle Goldman in the irons. Sadly, just 2 days before Cindrl was scheduled to perform the IBOP test in an attempt to obtain Star status she passed away at the Ontario Veterinary College due to complications of Potomac Horse Fever. Goffert 369, Xenophon’s (September 2017), and CDI-W, CDI3* Dressage at Devon, (September/October 2017). Xenophon is now working on schooling Grand Prix and is close to his medium tour debut. Sandra Ammonn and Mark Perry are very proud to have won the 2017 Born in the USA Friesian Affaire’s Breeders Cup/FHANA All-Breeds USDF. This is awarded to the North American KFPS/ Royal Friesian horse that has obtained the highest scores from all USDF Open Classes including Freestyle, based on the USDF year-end standings. We are also very proud that the USDF chose a photo of Xenophon and Jesse Collins as a prominent part of its 2017 show season print media.
