Judi Knapp Volunteer of the Year Award March 1, 2010
The FHANA 25th Anniversary Convention, an event that demanded thousands of hours of preparation by dozens of dedicated FHANA/KFPS Friesian enthusiasts.Of those dedicated volunteers one person stands head and shoulders above others in her willingness to sacrifice her time, talent and hours of sleep to deliver an event that was “both competitive and fun” to the FHANA membership.The appropriate honor for any individual who has sacrificed so much and so unselfishly devoted herself to this Association is the Judi Knapp Award.This year the FHANA Board is proud to present this most prestigious award to Ann Davis for her leadership, contributions and untiring efforts as the 25th Anniversary Horse Show Chairperson.
When first contacted in September of 2008, Ann approached the opportunity to be the Horse Show Chairperson with some trepidation.But after accepting the opportunity, Ann attacked the challenge with an unparalleled level of enthusiasm.FHANA not being a Show organization, Ann had no template to guide her.Working with fellow volunteers, Ann developed agendas, chaired meetings, made copious notes and forwarded minutes to all of the involved parties.From her experience and contacts she engaged a Show Manager that with her worked tirelessly to deliver world class event.
Her personnel challenge was to deliver an event that was “both competitive and fun”; an event that intrigued participants to compete and compete they did, from the unique “Traditional Friesian Trotting Races” to the more traditional “Ride and Drive” to a very challenging “Trail Class”, Ann oversaw and developed a class list that was both competitive and fun.
It is the acceptance of this challenge that gives the FHANA Board great pleasure to allow Ann Davis’ name to be joined with Judi Knapp, Cally Matherly and Jeanine Everhart as a individual who has put the Association before self and has volunteered her time to this membership expecting no approbation or compensation.Ann, we, for the entire FHANA membership, thanks you for everything you have done.Your contributions have been priceless and for that we will forever be in your debt.Congratulations.
