Presenter Bio: A native of Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Peter Timoney received his veterinary degree (MVB Hons) from the National University of Ireland (UCD) in 1964, MS from the University of Illinois in 1966, PhD from the University of Dublin (TCD) in 1974, and FRCVS from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London in 1978. He has held appointments at the Irish Department of Agriculture's Veterinary Research Laboratory in Dublin, Cornell University, the Irish Equine Centre, and the University of Kentucky. Holder of the Frederick Van Lennep Chair in Equine Veterinary Science, Dr. Timoney has been a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Science, University of Kentucky since 1983, with a specialty in equine infectious diseases, especially equine viral arteritis, contagious equine metritis and equine herpes viruses. He is an OIE designated specialist on equine viral arteritis and equine rhinopneumonitis. Dr. Timoney is a past Director of the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, and also Chair of the Department of Veterinary Science, University of Kentucky. He is a past President of the World Equine Veterinary Association and currently serves on a wide range of national and international advisory committees.
